Get Rid Of Clogged Drains In A Tub And Bathroom Sink

Clearing drain clogs without harsh chemicals.

Clogged or slow-draining sinks and bathtubs can be a pain. If the water doesn't drain, you'll have to stand in water during your shower or your sink will develop soap scum lines on it from sitting water. Hair, soap scum or hard water residue rather than hard objects normally cause the clogs that develop in your bathtub or bathroom sink. Use manual methods to remove these from bathtubs or sinks.

Instructions

Using a Plunger

1. Fill the bathtub or sink with water. Use enough water to cover the rubber portion of the plunger.

2. Coat the rim of the plunger with petroleum jelly to get a good seal.

3. Hold a plunger over the drain and press it down.

4. Raise the plunger handle up without pulling the rubber lip from the bathtub or sink surface. Continue pumping 20 times. Remove the plunger to see if the water will run through the sink.

5. Repeat the process until the water runs down the drain.

Using a Coat Hanger

6. Straighten a wire hanger. Wear work gloves to protect your hands from the sharp wire.

7. Push the wire hanger down the drain until you encounter the clog.

8. Slide the hanger around the clog. Push the wire through the clog in several areas to soften it and loosen it from the pipe.

9. Run water down the drain to push the clog through.
