Cool Teenager Bedroom Ideas

Turn your teen's room into an expression of who she is.

Many teenagers redecorate their rooms to transition out of a more childish decor. The best decor scheme depends on the individual's interests and taste, but there are many cool options that may work for a broad range of teens. The first thing to consider is the layout of the room. Determine how much space you have to work with and decide if you need to put anything into storage before decorating.

Music Bedroom

Music-themed decoration can take on many forms.

Most people don't grow out of a love of music. Avoid getting too specific in your decorating. For example, don't use a favorite band for a theme because the teen may change his taste in the next few years. Music-themed decoration is versatile and you can use it with any color scheme. If the teen plays an instrument, display it by hanging it on the wall. One visually dynamic idea is to purchase vintage vinyl records and hang them in a grid on one of the walls to make a strong, colorful focal point in the room. Another cheap decor idea is to cut out musical notes from black foam board and hang the notes from the ceiling using clear fishing line.

Art Bedroom

Have your teen paint a mural on one wall.

If the teen is a creative person who has a love for art, decorate the room with artwork from her favorite artist. By framing posters and prints by the same artist in the same color of frame you create a cohesive look that is thematic, mature and meaningful to the teen. If she likes to make her own artwork, provide an easel and paints in one of the room's corners. You may even choose to dedicate one wall to framed artwork that she made.

Vintage Bedroom

Refurbishing vintage furniture can be inexpensive.

A quick, inexpensive way to make a hip, distinctive bedroom is to add pieces of vintage furniture and decor. By purchasing items at estate sales, thrift stores and garage sales, you are sure to design a room that looks like no other. Paint and reupholster old furniture to restore it to its old glory if you want an updated look with a vintage feel. Hanging a collection of old cameras on the wall, leaving a vintage typewriter on the desk, and using old photos as decoration can make the room look whimsical and trendy.
