Arrange A Small Bedroom With A Desk

Position your bed in the corner to free up some storage space.

Small bedrooms can present a cozy retreat at the end of the day, but they also come with their share of decorating and spacial challenges. This is particularly true if the space also needs to double as a home office requiring a desk. The trick to making all of this work well together is to economize the space and furnishings. Furniture does double-duty, plus a bit of clever arranging makes it possible to fit all the necessary items---including the desk---into your small space.

Instructions

1. Position the bed against the wall in a corner. This frees up floor space and allows you to make the best use of the space to accommodate the desk, a bookcase and other furniture items.

2. Move the bookshelf so that it's at the end of the bed, facing outward with its back against the bed. You're going to position the bookcase and the desk in such a way that these two items enclose the end of the bed. This puts the bookshelf in close proximity to the desk, allowing you to store necessary items on the shelves. It also keeps the walkway in front of the bed relatively clear.

3. Push the desk up to the bed. This economizes the space in the room. Additionally, any books that you need will be stored within reach on the shelves. If you need more storage space, buy a few of the plastic rolling drawer sets and stow them beside the desk.

4. Decorate the bed with large, thick pillows. Put the pillows up against the walls and the bookcase to create a daybed during the day. Use the colors and patterns you're featuring in your room's decorating scheme to pull the look together.

5. Acquire a night table that serves double-duty. Place the night table by your bed and put a floor length tablecloth on the table. Items like a lamp, a cup of tea and other immediate necessities go on the table while you store storage bins below the table under the tablecloth.
