Choose Colors For A Bedroom

Perhaps you've just had the same dull look for awhile and need a change or maybe you've just moved into a house and don't like the look of the bedroom. For whatever reason, choosing the colors you will use in your bedroom depend a lot on your taste. But even then, making a decision you can be comfortable with is a delicate task.

Instructions

1. Your bed is the focal point of the entire bedroom. The first thing you need to do is get the perfect bedspread for you. The color depends on what kind of atmosphere you wish to create for your entire bedroom. For a sunny and open look, go with white, yellow, orange or bright light-reflecting colors. To make the bedroom cozy and warm, choose brown, orange, cream and deep hues. Be romantic and lustful with red, purple, pink and other rosey hues. Note that there can be a wide variety of shades for each color, so with a general idea of the colors you want in your bedroom, go shopping. Pick up a comforter set consisting of sheets, shams and pillowcases.

2. Go shopping again, this time for curtains. It's easier to determine what will work well with your comforter set if you take a sham with you for comparison. When choosing curtains, you don't always have match color for color. Many comforters have a multitude of colors. Something that can really add depth to your bedroom is if you take the tiniest color in the comforter and use that color for curtains. For example, maybe you have a dark brown comforter with block patterns with embroidered deep purple borders. Even though the deep purple borders are almost non-existant unless you really study the comforter, you can offset that by getting the same deep purple color in the curtains.

3. Using what you have already, find accessories for your bedroom that will enhance the colors of your comforter set. If there are other small colors in your comforter, find similiar color items for the room such as a lamp shade, art for the walls, or a sheer scarf to drape over the bedposts. Please note that you are still matching colors in that coordinate with the bed comforter. Because the bed is the focal point of the room, you'll want to accent it. It's very tempting to match items to the curtains now but it will end up taking the focus from the bed. Also, hanging items should never be the same color as your curtains. It will make the room look closed and monotonous.

4. Choose wallpaper or paint samples. Selecting the wall color can be quite difficult as well as slightly permanent unless you really enjoy the work involved in redoing your walls every few months. Avoid big, bold and bright patterns that can take the focus off your bed and make it difficult to coordinate with wall art. Keep with the theme of the room. If you're going for cozy and have used that to dress your bed and accessorize, don't suddenly splash your walls with bright yellow. It will leave the room feeling lopsided, not to mention cause confusion to whoever enters it. You can completely match your comforter set with the walls but it is not recommended. It can make the bed feel like a chameleon, trying to blend with its surroundings.

5. Get painting or wallpapering and then bring in all the bedroom elements you purchased to put the room together.
