Design A Teen Girl'S Bedroom

Make sure to place a full-length mirror in a teen girl's bedroom.

A teenage girl's bedroom is a place of refuge, entertaining and studying. The designing and decorating of a teen girl's room should reflect their style, personality, hobbies and desires. Decide on a theme for the room and coordinate the colors and furniture to the theme. Plan a room that allows for growth and change. Choose furniture that can be used at different ages. If you're looking to save money, you can refurbish furniture pieces with paint.

Instructions

1. Choose a color palette for the room. Review photos of teen bedrooms online and in magazines to find a style and color for your bedroom. Cut pictures out of magazines to help guide your choices. Visit a paint store and pick up paint swatches. Study the paint decks and decide on a color theme. Paint the walls a color that coordinates with the bedding.

2. Select a focal point for the room, such as the bed. Choose bedding to bring color into the room. Incorporate the color of the bedding in the window treatments and throw pillows. Colorful fabrics work well in a young girl's room.

3. Choose a bed that can be converted to extra sleeping space, such as a trundle bed. Place four or five pillows on the bed for comfort.

4. Place a small futon in the room for extra seating and to provide a sleeping area for guests.

5. Place a small desk in the room that can hold a laptop computer and school supplies for doing homework and projects. Place a lamp on the desk to provide good lighting. Select a comfortable chair for the desk.

6. Install some shelves on the walls or use a free-standing bookcase. Decorate the shelves with books, games, awards or collections.

7. Install hooks in the closet for quickly hanging clothes. Place a laundry basket in the closet to catch dirty clothes. Install shelving in the closet to store clothes, games and accessories.

8. Hang artwork on the walls that reflect hobbies and personality. Choose posters that are inexpensive and can easily be changed.

9. Reuse and recycle to create a teenage bedroom on a budget. Paint old furniture for a new, fresh look. Find items at thrift stores or rummage sales to decorate the room. Keep color and function in mind when decorating a teenage girl's room.
