Decorate A Bedroom With Brown Zebra Stripes

Zebra stripes are a contemporary look.

Unleash your wild side by decorating your bedroom with brown zebra stripes. This pattern lays the foundation for a safari or nature-inspired theme or a fashionista look for your bedroom. Use a few accent pieces with zebra stripes or make zebra stripes a prominent feature in your room, according to your personal preference.

Instructions

1. Find a zebra stripe pattern that you like. Place the pattern on an overhead projector. Move the projector several feet away from the wall where you want to apply the zebra stripes. The image should should be in sharp focus. Make sure that the width of the stripes in the image is proportionate with the width of your bedroom. Wide rooms require a wider zebra stripe pattern.

2. Trace the outline of the stripes with a pencil. You can cover one or two walls with the print or reserve the application for the wall behind the bed to use in place of a headboard.

3. Tape the area immediately beside the stripe and apply sealer to the edges to keep the paint in the designated area. Use a thin paintbrush dipped in brown paint to paint over your pencil markings. Fill in the space between the stripes with white or cream paint.

4. Install coordinating flooring. Since your walls provide a dramatic statement, a more subtle flooring will help balance the effect. Brown carpeting is a practical choice or install hardwood flooring to add a natural element to correspond with the zebra stripes.

5. Place furniture in the room. Solid-colored pieces will help anchor the room. Use furnishings in black, brown, cream or white to contrast with the zebra stripes. Add a bright color for accent, such as red or bright blue. For example, place a blue love seat or armchair in the room. A token piece of furniture with zebra stripes, such as an armchair or ottoman, can repeat the zebra stripe element.

6. Choose textiles. Use zebra prints if you prefer in either your curtains, comforter, pillows or area rug; be selective. As an alternative, use brown or cream textiles for a monochromatic look. Hot pink or Tiffany blue linens give the room a more feminine look.

7. Add accessories to the room. African-style statues, art, pictures or ceramics are obvious choices that coordinate with the theme. Red, turquoise, aqua and yellow accessories, such as lamps, storage cubes, sconces or mirrors, add contrasting colors to the design.
