Decorate A Bedroom In Yellow & Blue

Small changes, such as paint, can make a big impact in your bedroom decor.

Your bedroom is a sanctuary where the entire mood can be set by your d cor. No matter how current and up-to-date your d cor is, you may want to change the style or color palette to suit your mood or life situation. A blue and yellow bedroom is a classic color combination that is both soothing and bright, providing a place where you can rest and recharge. Update your bedroom d cor to a blue and yellow look quickly and easily by focusing on a few main d cor areas and pieces.

Instructions

1. Strip your bedroom of all its current colored, patterned or textured curtains, linens, pillows, rugs or specialty furniture pieces. Remove any wallpaper.

2. Choose a paint scheme. Yellow and blue can easily be worked into a complementing paint scheme. Decide if you want to use one color as a focus wall, use one color throughout the room or paint the walls a neutral color with blue or yellow accent colors.

3. Purchase paint samples at your local home supply center. Paint large swatches of color on your walls so you can see the choices clearly. Choose your paint colors and purchase them. Paint your walls to lay the foundation for your room's new look.

4. Select complementing bedding. There are several blue and yellow bedding options available in department stores and online. Your bed serves as a focal point of your room, so choose bedding that reflects the decorative spirit you are aiming for. Look for bedding that complements the wall color. For example, if your walls are yellow, blue bedding with sunflowers could help bring your theme together -- and incorporate the blue.

5. Add curtains. Windows are another focal point of your room, and the color, print, texture and look of the curtains can reflect a soft romantic feel or a sharper modern look. The curtains should work well with the bedding and rest of the linens in the room -- but also stand out against the wall paint color.

6. Arrange your furniture to make the room as well-organized and calming as possible. Rearrange any pieces if necessary. If the color of your furniture doesn't work well with your new d cor scheme, you can paint it or replace it. Try using a yellow-painted chair at a wood desk, for example.

7. Accessorize your newly decorated room. Add throw pillows for softness, throw rugs to anchor the room, artwork that coordinates with your color scheme and look, and framed photos, small boxes and any other items that add personality to your room. Look for items in both blue and yellow -- but try to find a combination that brings out the lesser-used shades of the color, so that the room is not overwhelmed by one color.
