Diy Bedroom Decor With A Newspaper Tree

A newspaper tree can add an artistic and even slightly surreal decorative touch to your bedroom. Building it up, branch by branch and leaf by leaf, allows you to complete the project at your own pace, or even subtly shift the look of your bedroom by adding, removing and moving branches from time to time. To create the effect of a mysterious forest, create multiple trees and bushes all the way around your bedroom walls.

Instructions

1. Cut long, skinny rectangles of newspaper and tape them together, end to end, to form the trunk of the tree. Trim the edges to have a slight concave curve. If desired, tape long, skinny triangles to the base as roots.

2. Cut two to three rectangles to form limbs that will branch off the main trunk. Each limb should be about half the length and width of the trunk. Trim them into curved, crooked or pointed shapes as desired, depending on the style of your tree. Tape each limb to the top of the trunk at a unique angle.

3. Cut sub-branches for each limb, trim them into shape and tape them onto alternating sides of the limb at regular intervals. As a rule of thumb, each sub-branch should be one-third to one-half the length and width of the limb from which it branches out. Continue cutting and taping smaller and smaller sub-branches for each branch until your tree reaches the desired detail level.

4. Cut leaves out of the newspaper and tape them to the branches, covering the end of every branch and adding more leaves along the lengths of the branches to fill out the crown of the tree.

5. Roll small balls of sticky tack between your fingers and press them onto the outer edges of the back of the tree. Position the tree against the wall and press the sticky tack balls to hang the tree.
