Decorate A Dining Room And Kitchen That Have Red Walls And Brown Furniture

A dining room and kitchen featuring red walls with brown furniture generally is considered to have a more rustic, country theme, which may be continued by choosing decor pieces that complement the color scheme of the two rooms. Although red may be considered an "angry" color, pairing it with earth tones helps subdue the color and creates a cozy environment. While you may incorporate other colors, choose those that match your color scheme to avoid too much contrast.

Instructions

1. Complement red walls by using brown wall decor. Frame pictures and photos in assorted wooden frames of various styles and colors in both rooms, use a wooden wall clock in the kitchen, wooden shelving units in both rooms, and any other brown/wooden decor accents you like.

2. Use red decor pieces on brown furniture. For example, use red linen napkins with wooden napkin rings on the dining room table, set out fresh-cut red roses or other red flower combinations as the dining room table centerpiece and as an accent on your kitchen table if applicable. Red flatware and glassware are options, as are red candle centerpieces, red table cloths, red satin seat cushions on dining room table chairs, and red plaid cushions for kitchen chairs.

3. Incorporate other colors that complement the brown and red as desired, such as red-orange hues, tan colors and gold colors. Use these and other complementary colors for wall stenciling and in small knickknacks and other small decor pieces. For example, hang a brown wicker wreath in the dining room or on the kitchen door that incorporates all of these colors as well as red.
