Decorate A Beach Cottage Bedroom

Beach-inspired decor items add character to your cottage bedroom.

A beach cottage bedroom can be turned into your own private sanctuary by using the ocean and natural surroundings as inspiration. You can choose decor items that celebrate your home's beach location, pamper yourself by choosing soft cotton linens in sea-inspired hues and decorate with sky and water colors that make it hard to distinguish where your bedroom ends and the beach begins.

Instructions

1. Paint the bedroom walls a water-inspired shade. Choose a fresh seafoam green hue or soft turquoise color reminiscent of the Caribbean Sea. The refreshing walls will set the stage for other beach-themed furniture and decor.

2. Buy whitewashed furniture, which appears to have aged naturally after being outside in salty sea air. Pick a matching headboard, dresser, work desk and bookshelf set. Choose a night stand featuring a glass or marble top for an elegant look. Many types of wood can be whitewashed, such as oak and pine.

3. Hang gauzy white curtains from bamboo rods. Sheer curtains will catch the soft ocean breezes and allow sun to shine in. Install liners or blinds under the curtains which can be pulled down for added privacy.

4. Purchase comfortable, beach-inspired bedding. Pick a casual comforter featuring stripes of soft coral, blue, ivory, pink and gold. Enhance the bed with decorative pillows displaying seashell, starfish, coral reef and sand dollar designs.

5. Decorate with seashell accessories. Hang a casually elegant chandelier featuring dangling seashells, freshwater pearls and pieces of vibrant sea glass. Replace plain dresser knobs with seashell-shaped versions. Dress up a plain wall shelf by gluing seashells and starfish around the perimeter of it; use the shelf to display a vase filled with island-inspired flowers, such as orchids.
