Design Your Own Bedroom Wallpaper

Sometimes the perfect wallpaper cannot be found at a home improvement store.

Wallpaper comes in countless colors and patterns, yet sometimes the perfect look is impossible to find. A young Michelangelo might have what he considers his best drawing. A photographer could have the ideal waterfall photo that adds the "Zen" needed to bring peace at the end of his day. Do you have an idea of what you'd like duplicated on the walls at your house? Then you should design your own wallpaper.

Instructions

1. Decide if you want a repeating pattern or a mural. Any photograph can be turned into a wall mural, which is several small pieces of wallpaper that, when put together, make up one large picture.

2. Focus your attention on color and pattern, keeping in mind that color is important when setting the mood of a room. For example, the Faux Finish website says red is an extreme color that conveys anger or excitement, while blue is a color that has been proven to relieve stress.

If your bedroom has many pieces of furniture and lots of shelves with countless knickknacks, you will want a picture or design for your wallpaper that is more subdued. If your accessories are minimal, the pattern on the walls can take center stage.

3. Scan your design or photograph, or download it from a digital camera. Save it in JPEG format.

4. Measure the wall(s). Figuring out how much wallpaper you will need can be tricky. The company from which you purchase the wallpaper can use the measurements you provide to work out how much you'll need.

5. Choose a company to create your wallpaper or mural. Most company websites will allow you to download your graphics into a preview program.
