Restroom Laws For Pennsylvania

For every men's restroom stall, two women's restroom stalls must be provided.

Laws for public restrooms in Pennsylvania are regulated by the Department of Labor and Industry. The following law was adopted under the authority contained in Section 4 of the Restroom Equity Act in Title 34.

Significance

This act was adopted to assist with the delays women face when using a public restroom facility. These regulations were set to satisfy the department's standards to all public and private restroom facilities covered by the act. The facilities covered by the act include areas with 300 or more restroom areas.

Function

Under the Restroom Equity Act, if a facility has a seating capacity of 500 or more people, it must have two women's restroom stalls for each men's single restroom stall or urinal. This particularly relates to event areas or public parks.

Time Frame

The Restroom Equity Act was passed on April 5, 1997 and is continually regulated through 2010. Regulations must be put in place while building a new area or must be altered for pre-existing areas.
