Bedroom Window Ideas

Cotton fabric bedroom curtains

Bedroom windows can range from simple to elegant, all depending upon which treatment you choose. Window treatments do not have to be expensive, and some can even be home made. When deciding on what to do with your bedroom windows, you should keep the ambiance and theme of the room in mind.

Curtains

Curtains are a classic window treatment, and work well for windows of all sizes and shapes. To ensure that your curtain complements your room's decor, carefully choose your curtain's fabric. For example, a curtain made of flowing organza would look out of place in a futuristic-themed bedroom, and a curtain made of silk would not look good in a shabby-chic style bedroom.

Blinds

Window blinds do not just come in plain white and ivory anymore--you can get custom colors and unique materials such as wood and cotton fabric. They also don't have to be slated, and can be constructed of solid pieces of fabric.

If you have a modern or contemporary bedroom, consider vertical blinds. Vertical blinds work best for windows that are tall. If you have a shorter window, choose horizontal blinds or a one-piece fabric blind.

Homemade Embellishments

You do not need to purchase expensive curtains or valances to decorate your windows. If you already have mini-blinds or window shades, you can add a punch of color and visual interest by draping a long piece of fabric above the window. Use decorative hooks or an inexpensive curtain rod to hold the fabric in place.

Alternatively, you can swag a piece of long fabric directly on top of your mini-blinds. The trick to using this technique is picking a fabric with enough weight so that it won't slide off your blinds.

Window Seats

In order to make a window seating area, the window will either need to be built to double as a seat, or wide enough that a bench can be placed under it. Window seats are convenient decorations that double as functional spaces. This window decoration looks especially nice in country, shabby chic, romantic style, and French-themed bedrooms.
