Good Ideas For A Girl'S Bedroom

A bed with netting that you can use to surround a relaxation station.

A girl's bedroom is her sanctuary; therefore, it is important that the room's decor embody her style and taste. However, the room should also be functional as well as stylish to help her room remain organized and as tidy as possible. When creating a girl's bedroom, keep her age in mind. Invest more money in room aspects that will remain usable as she grows than decor aspects that she may want to alter as her tastes change.

Relaxation Station

Create a retreat in your girl's bedroom that can act as a space for play or relaxation. This space is especially appropriate for young girls who want a place to create their fantasies, but could still be used by a preteen as a reading or writing area, or just another gathering area in her room. It works like a playhouse, but it is indoors and can be made very inexpensively. Decide on an open spot for your retreat. Simply purchase a sheer fabric and hang it from a hook drilled into the ceiling. You also can purchase a netting that typically hangs over a bed, but instead hang it over your designated space. Fill the inside with comfy pillows that go along with your room's color scheme or style and enjoy.

Storage Furniture

Help your daughter keep her room tidy by purchasing a bed that provides storage as well. You can buy a bed frame that has drawers underneath. To maximize space, especially in a small bedroom, purchase a loft bed, which is virtually three furniture pieces in one. Loft beds are available with many different storage options underneath. You can buy one with a vanity or desk underneath, as well as bookcases. A bed with built-in storage may cost more than a standard bed frame, but it can save you from buying additional furniture pieces and is a piece of furniture your daughter will be able to use even as a teenager.

Window Treatments

Window treatments add style to any room and a girl's bedroom is no exception. Do not settle for the standard blinds. Window treatments such as shutters, curtains and shades are available in many different styles and materials. Curtains also are relatively easy and inexpensive to make, so you could pick out a fabric and pattern that works for the room. Make a sash to draw curtains away from the window in a stylish and cute manner. Window treatments are easy to change, but can have a dramatic impact on a bedroom's feel.
