Redo A Teenage Girl'S Bedroom

A teenage girl's bedroom should reflect her individual personality and functional needs. It is unwise to automatically assume that a teenage girl wants pink, sugar, spice and everything nice in her bedroom. Maybe she wants a basketball theme or more of a dark mysterious look for her room. Take the time to create a room design that will inspire her and stimulate her senses.

Instructions

1. Find out the teenage girl's two favorite colors. Use these colors, or various shades, when decorating the room.

2. Ask the teen about her interests. That includes television shows, characters, favorite stars and role models. This information will help you make finishing touches on the bedroom.

3. Clear everything from the teen's room including furniture, books and decorations. Paint the walls with one or two coats of primer to start fresh.

4. Paint the room walls with one of the teen's favorite colors and then paint the trim (such as around the doors and windows) with the other color.

5. Consider a desk-bed combo instead of separate pieces, which will allow the teen more space for other activities like practicing for a dance recital or having a sleepover. A desk-bed is a fully functional desk that folds down underneath a bed for sleeping; it is very functional. Position the desk-bed opposite from the wall containing the door.

6. Place the television (if you choose) on the opposite side of the room from the desk-bed. This may help discourage the teen from watching television when seated at the desk studying but allows her to view the television when relaxing in bed.

7. Hang up posters and position additional decorations throughout the bedroom consistent with the teen's preferences as identified in Step 2. For instance, if she likes the character Betty Boop, add framed Betty Boop posters to the wall and lamps containing that image.

8. Find fabric in one of the two colors she likes best, or a pattern containing both colors, and make simple curtains to hang on clip rings from a standard rod.
