Having dirty or old-looking tile in your bathroom can be an instant turnoff. People might take one look at the tiled floor or walls and think the entire bathroom is disgusting. This might or might not be true, but it is not difficult to get your bathroom tile looking new again. Many times, just cleaning tile will still leave it looking dingy. Perhaps you have a bad color that you want to get rid of. No matter what your reasons for wanting to bring back that brand-new feeling to your bathroom, reglazing the tile will help you reach your goal.
Instructions
1. Clean the entire surface with a normal tile cleaner. This is just to remove as much of the initial dirt as possible.
2. Remove the silicone caulking around the tile with silicone digester. Get rid of as much of it as possible because any remaining caulk could ruin the end result.
3. Etch the entire tile area, if you have porcelain tiles, with acid paste. This will rid the tile of any remaining debris and also prepare the tile to accept the glaze. Be careful when working with this acid. Move slowly and wear gloves through the entire process.
4. Clean the floor with a degreaser. This will give the floor one final cleaning to get rid of any small particles. Allow the floor to dry completely.
5. Mask off the entire bathroom. Cover all areas on which you do not want to get primer or glaze. This is especially true when you are using spray-on primer. Cover any large areas with newspaper or plastic and then tape that down if needed.
6. Apply the epoxy primer to your tile. If you are using a spray primer, hold the can a couple feet away and spray evenly, otherwise use a brush and make even strokes. Either way, pay special attention to the corners and do not skip over any spots.
7. Spray on your acrylic-urethane resin. This is where you will get the color that you are looking for. The resin should only be sprayed once the primer is completely dry. Once you have finished spraying the resin, wait the appropriate amount of time.
8. Apply the polyurethane coating to the floor to seal it and give it a good shine. Reapply the silicone caulking that you removed once everything is dry.
Tips Warnings
Acrylic-urethane resin comes in two different types, one-day drying and three-day drying. Use the three-day resin to get the best and longest-lasting results.
Make sure the bathroom is ventilated well.
