Cuckoo Clock Repair Made Simple
With their intricate craftsmanship, cuckoo clocks add distinction to a home. They hail from the Black Forest region of Germany, and most are made in the traditional chalet style. Some are very basic in their pipes while others are installed with music box capabilities. Cuckoo clock problems can range from anything like a chain slipping off a gear to a clock running too fast or slow.
Instructions
1. Examine the case. If the wood appears to be warping around the train-weight chain, drill a larger hole. This will keep the chain from catching.
2. Tug on the train-weight to make sure the cuckoo chain has not come off the sprocket. It should make a clicking sound if it is in place. If you do not hear clicking, then place the clock chain back on its sprocket by looping the chain around the sprocket.
3. Check the bellows by pressing on them with your finger. If they do not make the two to one cuck and coo sound, then replace them.
4. Adjusting the pendulum will help fix problems with the clock running too fast or too slow. Moving the pendulum weight up fixes a slow clock, while moving it down fixes a fast one.
Tips Warnings
You need to oil your clock every three years, and clean the gears every five to seven years.
