Chain Link Fences in General

Residential Chain Link Fence
Residential chain link fences are almost iconic in their simplicity and functionality. They usually measure about four-feet high, but also come as tall as six feet. They consist of a series of posts around the outside of which are connected panels of wire fence with diamond-shaped holes in them. Dimensions for chain link fences can vary from company to company, but the gauge of the wire is usually around 11.5. Usually, each panel is around 10 feet on center.
Commercial Chain Link Fence
Commercial chain link fences are very similar in design to residential chain link fence, but they are usually taller and more abundant. Usually, commercial fences start at about six feet high, but can be as high as 20 feet. They often enclose baseball fields, tennis courts, and perimeters around buildings.
Security Chain Link Fences
Security chain link fences usually encircle prisons, factories or any space at high risk for theft, escape, or vandalism. Like commercial chain link fence, security chain link fence is higher than the residential variety, but it also adds a top fringe of concertina wire, also known as barbed wire. The barbed wire can either be spiral-shaped or consist of three straight wires.
Vinyl Coated Chain Link Fence
Vinyl coated chain link fencing is exactly like the residential variety except that is comes with a protective layer of vinyl around the panels and posts. This vinyl coating is available in many different colors.
Wrought Iron Fencing
Wrought iron fencing is by far the strongest type of metal fence available. It has a long history, having been used for centuries. Wrought iron fencing takes a great deal of time and energy to construct, but can be custom made in any shape desired. It is extremely strong, but does require regular maintenance to avoid corrosion.
Aluminum Fencing
Aluminum fencing has become more popular in recent years as an affordable alternative to wrought iron fencing. In addition to providing the same ornate beauty as wrought iron, these fences require less maintenance than wrought iron, but require almost no upkeep. Aluminum fences can be made in a wide variety of styles and colors.
