Marble floor tiles can be an attractive and elegant addition to your home's decor. However, when you choose to have marble floors, it is your responsibility to learn properly maintain and clean them. If you clean and polish your marble floors regularly, they will continue to have the same gorgeous appearance for years. In fact, marble that's in good condition can actually add value to your home, meaning the cleaning process may be more important than you realize.
Instructions
1. Create a cleaning solution for your marble floor tiles. Mix together 3 tbsp. of baking soda and 1 qt. of warm water. For particularly large floors, you can triple or quadruple these measurements.
2. Saturate a soft cloth in the cleaning solution, then wring it out. Scrub the entire marble floor.
3. Scrub areas that have noticeable dirt or stains a little more than other areas. If necessary, rewet the cloth with the cleaning solution until the entire floor has been cleaned.
4. Allow the cleaning solution to sit on the marble floor tiles for two to three hours.
5. Rinse the entire floor with clean water, and dry it thoroughly with an absorbent cloth.
6. Apply a marble floor polish once all the tile is dry. The polish can be applied using a soft cloth. Read the packaging instructions carefully to make sure the polish is safe to use on marble floors. Once dry, use a polishing pad to buff the polish into a nice shine.
Tips Warnings
Never use a cleaning agent that contains acid on marble floor tiles. This includes vinegar. The acid will break down the marble and cause permanent damage. Chemical-based and abrasive cleaners can also damage marble floors.
A marble floor can also be polished using a diamond polishing pad. This might be a better choice if you have kids or pets that would make allowing the floor polish to dry completely difficult.
