Nickel cadmium batteries, also known as nicad batteries, are considered toxic and cannot be disposed of in regular trash. The chemicals inside will leach out into landfills if thrown out in regular trash, poisoning the landfill area. They must be disposed of in a safe, environmental and ethical manner--something that won't take much time at all.
Instructions
1. Call 800-8-BATTERY. They will give you the nearest nicad recycling center near you.
2. Phone your local waste management service and ask about their nicad recycling policies. You may be able to get a special container and leave them out with your regular pick up.
3. Find one of these businesses in your area that will take and recycle nicad batteries: Best Buy, Black Decker, The Home Depot, London Drugs, Lowe's, RadioShack, The Source, Sears, Staples, Target, US Cellular, Verizon Wireless and Wal-Mart.
4. Drive or travel to the business nearest you and drop off your nicad batteries.
