Not all contacts are the same; the differences should be considered before buying.
Acuvue 2 and Acuvue Oasys are both contact lenses that are manufactured by the company, Vistakon. Both lenses have many features in common, such as having an available power range of -12.00D to +.800D, which refers to the power of the lens according to the individual's vision needs. There are some slight differences in between the two brands of contacts, which may assist with the buyer in choosing; however, ultimately it's about comfort for most buyers and that has to be personally tested by the individual.
Usage
One of the biggest differences between Acuvue 2 and Oasys is the length of time that the user can wear them. Acuvue 2 is worn daily for two weeks and taken out at the end of each day. Oasys can be worn either two weeks daily or one to two weeks of daily wear with up to six consecutive nights without being taken out. Depending on the lifestyle and preferences of the user, it may be more convenient to leave contacts in for longer periods of time rather than removing them each day.
Materials
The materials used to make the two types of contacts are different. Acuvue 2 is made from a polymer known as etafilcon A. It consists of 42 percent water and 58 percent of material. Acuvue Oasys is made from silicone hydrogel and consists of 62 percent of material and 38 percent of water. Water content in contact lenses is important because it provides the eye with moisture.
Oxygen Permability
Although Acuvue Oasys has a lower water content, it has a higher content of oxygen transmissibility, which means that it offers more eye comfort for the user. The Oasys contact lens contains liquid gel, which provides moistness for the eyes. Despite having lower water content, it is able to keep the eyes moist because it has greater oxygen permeability.
Price
Another difference between the two contact lenses is price. According to Acuvue, as of March 2011, the retail price for Acuvue 2 ranges from $15 to $22. The retail price for Oasys ranges from $25 to $35. Acuvue 2 has been on the market longer, which may account for why it is cheaper than Oasys. The price for Oasys may go down over time as new brands are introduced, but because it is newer than Acuvue 2, it is higher.
