Moroccan Bedroom Ideas

A Moroccan theme can give a stark bedroom a warm feel.

Adding a Moroccan twist to your bedroom can transform it from a dull, ordinary room into an exotic retreat. The Moroccan style is known for its rich, bold colors and foreign feel. When you walk into a room with a Moroccan theme, you feel transported to someplace entirely different.

Colors

Choose a rich color palette. The Moroccan style is known for its bold, rich colors such as deep reds, oranges, golds and blues. This means that someone decorating in a Moroccan theme should steer clear of muted shades, such as pastels, and stark whites. Black, while fine as an accent color, is also not featured heavily in Moroccan decor.

Linens

Intricately patterned bed linens can give a bedroom a Moroccan feel. For this, mosaics or multicolored "tile" designs work well, and can be found easily in stores or online. For an extra touch, homeowners can go with silk--or, to avoid the sticker shock of silk, another fabric that has the look of silk. Richly colored throw pillows--perhaps ones that feature a tassel--are another easy way to stick to the Moroccan theme.

Furniture and Accessories

Accessories are an important part of bringing together the theme in any bedroom. For a Moroccan theme, try richly colored lanterns to add a soft touch of light to a dark corner. A sweet-smelling incense burner can help you relax after a long day. Also try a mirror with a pattern that complements the rest of the decor. Furniture shouldn't look too "new," and should also appear more handcrafted than machine made. Even the furniture can be deeply colored and intricately patterned, though those who are worried about a room appearing too busy can stick with wood tones.
