Trim A Dining Room

Wall trimming can be used to fill in gaps between the floor and the drywall.

Placing trim along the walls of your dining room will enhance the decor of your home. Wall trim is a type of molding that is applied to the edge of your walls. Wall trimming can also hide scratches and blemishes from the bottom of your walls where they meet the floor. Wall trim comes in the form of wood or plastic to add design to your dining room walls.

Instructions

1. Lay the wall trim against the base of the wall. Make sure the length of the trim matches the length of your dining room wall. A table saw can be used to cut the wall trim to match the dimensions of your dining room. For installing trim at the corners of the room, cut the ends of the joining sections at 45-degree angles in the direction where they meet the corner of the wall.

2. Use a molding or paneling adhesive to glue the trim to the edge of your dining room wall. Use a caulk gun to apply a line of glue to the backside of the trim. Push the trim against the edge of the wall. Use your hands to apply pressure to the trim to spread the adhesive behind the trimming.

3. Use a hammer to drive a nail into the trimming at an angle. Point the nail downward at a 45-degree angle, and use the hammer to pound it into the trimming and dining room wall. Hammer a nail into the trimming every 16 inches across the wall. Repeat this process to install trim around the remaining walls in your dining room.

4. Use trim caulking to fill in any gaps between the trimming and your dining room wall. Use a caulk gun to extract the caulk from the tube. Apply a line of caulking along the top of the trim molding. Use your finger to swipe across the top of the trim to form a seam. Remove any excess caulking from the trim using a damp cloth. Allow the caulk to dry for 15 minutes.
