Decorate A Dining Living Room

dining living room

A dining living room combo can either be a dream come true, or a nightmare. This adds great flow to any home. It even makes the space seem bigger because you don't have a lot of walls breaking up the space. However when you first walk through a home that has a dining living room you might not even feel like there is a dining room.

Instructions

1. Switch the rooms so they make sense. The dining room is traditionally closest to the kitchen. In some houses, it's staged differently so that you basically walk into the dining room through the entry way. Just because the previous owners had it set up this way doesn't mean that you have to. Think of where it will be easiest to serve your guests.

2. Divide the spaces up. Make it seem like two separate rooms without major construction. Keep the spaces light & airy. Try using floor to ceiling open bookshelves. These will bring in a modern element & storage. Just remember that you will be able to see these items from both sides, so accessorize accordingly. Bring in colorful vases that match both rooms. Separate one or both of the spaces with a large area rug. This way people will know where one room ends & the other one begins.

3. Make the rooms relate to each other. A dining living room combo is pretty open and may lead to a lack of continuity. It can be difficult to decorate two rooms that are close together without making them matchy matchy. Use the same finishes on your dining room & living room furniture. If you are shopping for both at the same time, consider sticking to the same designer or collection for your dining living room.

4. Use the same flooring in both rooms for a better sense of flow. You can have a chandelier over your dining room table, just make sure that it matches the other light fixtures in the space.

5. Pick the basic paint color for your dining living room and choose several paint colors on the same chip. Get a more dramatic look by going a few shades darker on the far wall to immediately draw people into the space without being too overwhelming.
