Little Girl Bedroom Ideas

Little Girl Bedroom Ideas

A bedroom should be a safe and beautiful place in which to rest and relax. Little girls need their own refuge that is personal, light and happy. With a few creative ideas and some feminine inspiration, you can turn your daughter's room into a retreat she'll be thrilled to call her own.

Bed

A little girl's bed is the centerpiece to her bedroom. Dress her bed in soft pastel floral sheets and pillowcases. Take a matching comforter and sew wide lace around the edges. Spread it on top of the bed. Dress a large doll or teddy bear in a fancy lace dress. Place the doll in the middle of the bed.

Walls

Paint the walls with a neutral color like off-white. On one wall use chalkboard paint or hang an extra large chalkboard. Supply your little girl with colored chalk for drawing. Cover wooden frames with patterned material. Staple the material to the frames, and hang them up on the walls for unique and interesting wall art.

Shelves

Equip one of the walls with built-in shelves for your little girl to fill with dolls and treasures. Paint the shelves in pastel shades that match the bed. Make sure they are wide enough to hold school textbooks. Use a hot-glue gun to line the edges of the shelves with lace that matches the bed comforter.

Floor

Buy two or three bathroom rugs with non-skid backing. On the back of the rugs, draw picture silhouettes. These can be cats, dogs, elephants, or princesses. Cut out the shapes with a pair of heavy-duty scissors. Place the rugs on the floor between the bed and the door.

Lights

Bedroom lighting should be soft. Use a low-watt lightbulb, about 40 watts, in the ceiling fixture. Purchase a large Chinese paper globe and attach it to the ceiling with the lightbulbs in the center. Beside the bed, place a good reading lamp. Use dabs of hot glue to attach miniature stuffed animals to the lamp. Glue lace around the top and bottom edges of the lamp shade.

Accents

Use a heavy material for curtains. Attach lace and ribbons to the top and bottom of the curtains. Place lacy tabletop runners and doilies on top of dressers and nightstands. Remove the light switch cover and paint your little girl's name on it in fancy letters. Create a sign outside her door. Paint her name and decorate it with pictures of flowers and her favorite animals.
