Mens Bedroom Ideas

Decorating a bedroom for a man involves a little time and contemplation. While many men just don't care as long as the room has a bed, a television set and a remote, others like their bedrooms to be their haven--a place to relax and chill after a long day at work. Others just don't have the time for a lot of upkeep, so finding just the right mixture can be challenging, but not impossible.

Theme

Determine a theme for a man's room. This doesn't mean that if a man likes to hunt you have to mount stuffed wildlife on the wall, but bring some of the outdoors indoors with an appropriate color palette and dark wood furniture. For a man who likes the sea, choose items that provide a nautical flair to decorate, such as chrome or brass instruments like a sextant and bell.

Color

Stay away from pastel colors in shades of pink, baby blue and sea foam green, and choose instead hues and tones that are more masculine, such as darker greens, navy blues and browns, tans and yes, even plain old white. When choosing darker colors for walls, offset dreariness or darkness with lighter color bed covers and curtains. Choosing a masculine print wallpaper for one wall of a bedroom may offset tan or white wall paint. Add a little spiff to the decor by choosing bright and solid colored throw pillows and bed coverings.

Furniture

Think about the man's likes and dislikes when it comes to furniture and choose black metal and chrome furniture for those who prefer a sleek, modern and easy- to-clean look. Some prefer the minimalist look, which means a bed and something to put the clothes in. For those who don't mind putting a little extra care into cleaning, a four-poster antique bed and an armoire are inviting and provide a sense of permanency and comfort. Whimsical or serious, choose furniture items that complement the colors and style of the room, and are both comfortable and utilitarian in design and function.
