Paint Colors & Themes To Create A Relaxing Master Bedroom

Canopy beds can add to the relaxing feel in a master bedroom.

The right paint colors and themes create an atmosphere that induces tranquility and relaxation as soon you walk into a master bedroom. Design a miniature oasis within your bedroom by choosing colors that help you feel peaceful. Avoid bright or neon shades in your bedroom because these colors can make you feel more awake and alert. Instead, pair your favorite cool shades with tranquil themes.

Calming Pastel Shades

Use calming pastel shades to create a serene environment in your bedroom. Colors such as baby blue, lavender, pastel green, light yellow and light pink all work to make a calming atmosphere. Combine all these colors together, or focus on incorporating two or three main colors in the room. Create a lavender room with white wood paneling and white crown molding. Feature real lavender flowers in the room, and tie light purple ribbons around the knobs of your dressers to add a touch of purple. Adorn your window sill and dressers with purple and green glass bottles and other matching treasures such as dried flowers or antiques.

Neutral Colors

Neutral colors can also create the relaxing bedroom that you crave. Colors such as beige, tan and ivory have a light, clean feel that blends well with all sorts of different decor and furniture styles. Paint your walls beige, and adorn your bed with white or ivory bedding. Hang up lacy curtains, and place a few large floor plants such as ivy or ferns in the corners of the room.

Tropical or Ocean Themes

Tropical or ocean themes showcase colors from the sea and shades seen as the sun sets. You can paint a sunset scene on the wall, or focus on featuring a variety of colors in the room that remind you of the ocean. Paint seashells in light pastel colors, such as pastel green or purple, and place the seashells in crystal bowls on your dresser. Feature a sheer light blue canopy on a canopy bed, or adorn your bed with blue and green bedding reminiscent of the sea. Pictures of ocean sunsets, small boat figurines, treasure chests and standard nautical decor also add to the ocean-like atmosphere in the room. Include tropical plants such as orchids, hibiscus or small palm trees in the room. You can place these plants in the corners of the room or showcase them on your dresser, depending on their size. Orchids are small, but small palm trees look best on the floor in a corner.

Garden or Forest Themes

Mimic the relaxing environment of a secret garden or quiet forest within your bedroom. Paint a garden or forest wall mural, and then decorate the rest of the bedroom with plants and other elements from a garden or forest. Alternatively, you could just feature colors that remind you of a garden-like setting. For instance, paint the walls lavender, and create a flower border around the room. Hang up floral curtains, and adorn your bed with solid-colored or flower bedding, along with flower-shaped pillows. A forest room can include many treasures on the dressers and nightstands such as bowls filled with pine needles, pinecones, pebbles, dried flowers and leaves. Place a potted miniature pine tree in your forest room, and bring in plenty of indoor flowers, if you decide to go with a garden-theme room.
