Masculine Bedroom Ideas

Dark colors add a masculine feel to a bedroom.

Decorating a bedroom with a sense of style is still possible without sacrificing a sense of masculinity. Whether you're a new college graduate on his own for the first time or a lifelong bachelor, ditch your dull, white walls and worn-out bedspread, and add a touch of your personality to the bedroom. What is masculine is largely self defined; a masculine bedroom can include anything from antique furnishings to sleek, modern gear.

Theme

Incorporate a theme into your bedroom. You don't have to go overboard with the theme, but subtle touches throughout the room help to tie it together. A theme can be anything from simply sticking to the same color palette when decorating to placing objects related to a specific subject in the room. For example, if you are fan of a certain sports team, decorate in theme colors and hang several small items of team memorabilia on the walls, such as a framed, autographed jersey.

Flooring

In terms of flooring for a masculine bedroom, dark wood works well. Opt for a cherry-stained floor that goes with almost all color schemes. For a modern, industrial feel, opt for a smooth concrete floor. Stain the concrete or leave it the original gray color. Accent the wood or concrete floors with an area rug that fits in with the color scheme of your bed linens and curtains.

Bedding and Curtains

When it comes to your bedding or curtains, dark solids or patterns, such as stripes or plaids, provide the most masculine look. Rich tones such as crimson, forest green or midnight blue all add a subtle bit of color to a bedroom without going overboard. Don't be afraid to experiment with fabric textures for your curtains or bedspread. Leather, suede and even silk can add a manly feel to a room.

Furniture

Furniture comes in such a wide array of styles, choosing one is overwhelming. Any color of wood furniture can add to the feel of a masculine bedroom. Stick to simple designs without embellishment and ornate carvings. Metal furnishings, such as stainless steel bed frames, can also add a manly vibe to a room.
