Ideas For Dining Rooms With Columns

Columns in dining rooms can be used to the room's and diners' advantage.

Classic dining rooms include columns, which create an elegant setting and change the acoustics and feel of the room. Columns are also a structural necessity in many dining rooms, and the right design ideas can complement the columns in a special way.

Privacy Curtains

Curtains can be hung on wires or bars run between columns. These curtains can be left open and tied to the columns, or can be pulled shut to create privacy. Even when not being used, the curtains add a nice touch to the columns.

Decorating Your Columns

You can attach masks or paintings to your columns, which works best with square columns, or you can attach attractive lamps or lights to them, lighting areas around the dining room in a way that overhead lights and floor lamps can't.

Stocking Tables Around Columns

In smaller home dining rooms with columns, the space between the columns is where the table should be set up, with the columns becoming the border for the area around the table.Small tables or stations can be set up against the columns for supplies you may need while you dine, such as extra pieces of silverware, wine or water, or dishes that are finished or being saved for later. This approach can make the dining room feel even more intimate.
