Feng Shui Your Bedroom Using The Four Animals

You can use a simplified set of rules to apply feng shui.

The Chinese feng shui system of aesthetics helps align the features of human habitats with astronomical forces. There are several different methods and techniques for applying feng shui. It can be a complicated system, requiring expert advice to balance all its many aspects, but you can attempt to follow some simple guidelines on your own.

Feng shui attempts to utilize and balance the energy, called qi or chi, that is present in our surroundings, inherent in our environment and ourselves. Balance is achieved based on complementary forces. The four animals represent these forces. Each of the animals is associated with a corresponding color, direction, season and element.

Instructions

1. Familiarize yourself with the four animals and their symbols. The four celestial animals are part of a system of five elements. The tortoise represents the north and the water element. Its colors are dark blue or black. The dragon represents the east, the wood element and the male. Its color is green. The phoenix represents the south, and fire is its element. Its color is red. The tiger represents the west, the metal element and the female. Its color is white. The fifth is the yellow earth element. Some aspects of these representations vary among systems.

2. Pair and balance the animals and their representations to harmonize forces within your home and to bring the energies and influences of these protective figures into your bedroom to provide further protection. This balance creates symmetry and good feelings, which can influence outcomes of events in your life. For example, the back of your home, expressed by tortoise, is harmonized by the front, expressed through the phoenix; the water element balances the fire element, black balances red and so on.

3. Select furnishings or decorative items to serve as the animals or any of their aspects. For example, anything green, made of wood or shaped as a dragon can act as a symbol of the dragon. Use pastels for the colors of the four animals, as they are most peaceful, recommends the InterioGuru.com website.

4. Place the furnishings within your bedroom in a manner that furthers harmony. For example, use a low table or nightstand on the right side of your bed to represent the tiger energy and a tall item such as a dresser on the left side to serve the dragon energy, suggests the InteriorGuru.com website.

5. Face your bed toward your bedroom door, but do not place it directly across from the door. Remove any items from the foot of your bed, as they may block the phoenix energy and the inspiration it brings, warns the InterioGuru.com website, which suggests you place the head of your bed against the wall - but not under a window - for the protection and stability represented by the tortoise.
