Ideas For A Shared Girls Bedroom

You can create a shared bedroom in which each girl shares a sense of ownership of her space.

In most families, space in the family home is limited. For this reason, many siblings find themselves strange bedfellows with little choice but to share a bedroom. It can be a fun experience for siblings to share a bedroom, but it can also be a challenge when disagreements arise. For girls especially, each wants to be the princess of her castle. By respecting the individuality and personal likes of each girl, parents can create a space that exudes harmony instead of conflict with each child feeling that the bedroom represents a part of her.

Sensational Shades

There are four walls in a bedroom and painting them all the exact same shade is not the only course of action when designing a shared bedroom. Each girl probably has her own favorite color and compromise is usually not an option. Instead of insisting that one of the girls compromise, paint the walls in both of their favorite shades. Have each child pick her side of the room and paint the walls closest to her bed in her favorite color. This way, a part of each girl's personality is literally painted right on the wall.

Character Themes

Achieve individuality in a shared girls bedroom by expressing each girl's favorite character themes. If one girl prefers teddy bears and the other adores cats, use images of both characters in the design of the room. A bed sheet set covered in cats adequately signifies the likes of one of the girls while a comforter emblazoned with teddy bears will symbolize a favorite of the other. Contrasting character themes can co-exist in one bedroom and each girl can feel at home.

Divide and Conquer

For some parents, regardless of how hard they try, it is nearly impossible to bridge the gap that keep some girls at odds over their shared bedroom. Undertaking a home renovation, such as building a partition in the middle of the room, is costly and not always feasible. However, the room can still be separated in a number of ways. Taping a white line right though the middle of the room is the easiest option, but offers no privacy. A better option is to separate the room with a long heavy curtain strategically placed in the middle. Another idea could be to hang several plastic garden fence pieces, attached together with "S" hooks, to make an artificial wall with a big enough opening left to be used as a door.
