Design A Beach Themed Girls Bedroom

Create a fun, beach-themed bedroom for your daughter.

You can design a beach-themed bedroom that your daughter will delight in year-round. She can even join you in some of the design and decorating processes, while the two of you create a room that centers on color, play and fun. Create relaxing reading corners, playful decorating props and inspirational bedding accessories. No matter what her age, your little (or big) girl can take advantage of the aesthetic touches you add for years to come.

Instructions

1. Use a sand art kit to create colorful images for your room.

Choose paint colors that bring the beach indoors. Since you are designing the room for a girl, don't feel obligated to stick with pale blues and sand or beige colors. Instead, make it a bright sunny place for her with brighter blues and an accent wall in varying shades of orange and white trim.

While you are painting, allow her to fill small plastic vases with various colors of sand that can be set on a mirrored tray to display on her book case or night stand. You can also fill a tall, clear glass vase half full of sand. Place silk orchids or palm leaves in the vase so that they lay against the sides without peeping over the rim of the glass. Use this as a unique centerpiece for her dresser.

2. Hang paper lanterns directly above your daughter's bed.

Hang colorful beach decor from the ceiling. You can purchase beach balls, paper lanterns, and flower garland from your local dollar stores. Suspend the inflated balloons from the ceiling using small picture frame nails and fishing line. Line the perimeters of the room with the flower garland and hang several paper lanterns directly above her bed.

3. Turn flip-flops into wall decor and closet handles.

Accessorize her bed and walls with whimsical beach items. Keep bedding simple by folding a long beach towel across the end of the bed. Hang three long floats vertically at the head of her bed to create a colorful headboard. Pin raffia to the bottom of the box spring in place of a traditional dust ruffle.

Accent the walls by placing a shelf in the room to hold a giant pair of goofy sunglasses. Arrange her favorite shades around the large pair. Use hot glue to attach colorful flip-flops up one wall and around the top of her closet. You can even screw the flip-flops to the closet doors to be used as funky handles.

4. Turn an inexpensive wall mirror into a surfboard. Cut a piece of plywood 3-inches wider and longer than the mirror. Trace and cut a long oval in the plywood before sanding and painting it to look like a surfboard. Use nail glue to attach it directly over the mirror and hang it on the back of her bedroom door.

5. Stack floats around baskets and use them as colorful hampers.

Convert child size inner tubes into practical items for her room. Stack the rings around barrel-shaped trash cans, one for each corner of the room. One can be used as a waste basket and the other for a laundry hamper. She can also hide a small cooler in one to stash energy drinks or bottled water.

6. Place a folding lounge chair next to her laptop desk. Stand a beach umbrella behind it and add a bean bag chair for company. This area of her room can now be used for homework or relaxing. Make sure to include proper lighting whenever the area is being utilized for studying.
