Cute Kids Bedroom Ideas

A young child will remember her childhood room for years to come. Developing a room based on a theme is a great way to make your child's room an environment where her imagination will thrive. With a budget anywhere between $100 and $1000, your "theme" can become a reality.

Princesses

For a prim and proper little girl, consider a princess-themed room. Begin by focusing on the bed. Go with a gentle canopy or even a castle loft bed. Choose a light pastel for the wall--a light pink or yellow. Furnish the room with several details fit for royalty. A vanity is a must for any princess. Add some flair to a plain wardrobe or closet by trading a wooden door for a lavish curtain.

Race cars

One can scarcely wrestle a little boy away from his toy cars. For a car/truck/transportation enthusiastic, go for a race car theme. Choose a boy-friendly color for the wall--maybe a sky blue. Paint a track around the room by placing two parallel lines of painter's tape to form a road. Paint the road gray with several yellow dashes, and voila--instant race track! Go for a car-shaped bed, or, if you'd rather, stick to a more traditional bed, but opt for a car-themed comforter.

Nature

If your child has a natural love of nature, give her a room that will enable her to be in the outdoors without leaving the house. Choose between an ocean, rainforest, safari or zoo theme. Choose earthy colors for the wall and floor--greens, browns and blues. Display plenty of animals to keep your little monkey company in her animal room!

Star

A rock star, movie star or diva room is great for a child who loves the spotlight. Use your child's interests to plan an effective room. For a great movie-themed room, add a screening nook with a kid-sized couch and a place to watch movies on a TV, or a portable DVD player. Cover the walls with your little star's favorite movie posters and opt for lighting fixtures that resemble spotlights.

Sports

Let your little athlete wake up on the court every morning in a sports room. If your child plays a particular sport, try using some artifacts from his sport to create showpieces. Try a piece of a tennis or volleyball net as a headboard, or a border of soccer balls cut down the middle, all the way around a window. If you're feeling adventurous, look into a green carpet that will resemble grass, or an indoor-grade astroturf.
