Pirate Bedroom Ideas

Pirate Room

Pirate theme bedrooms are very popular rooms. They make great themed rooms for both boys and girls and can be decorated in style and fit in well with new trends. It's easy to transition a bedroom into a nautical, pirate themed room by using simple household objects or garage sale finds. A personally designed theme bedroom can show off your child's interests and imagination, and you can stay within a budget to create a cozy ocean getaway.

Paint and Borders

Choose paint colors for your pirate room that mimics the ocean. Try painting the lower portion of the room with a darker blue to symbolize the ocean. Use lighter blues for the top of the walls for the sky. You can add clouds to the walls by using white paint and a sponge. Portals can be painted on the walls to resemble the portals on a ship. There are many wall paper borders to choose from. Try browsing your local paint supply store or home improvement store. Search for nautical or beach themed borders to place along the wall. You can also purchase murals that are pirate or nautical themed that are prepasted. These are usually hung in sections. Wet the sections and hang them on the wall. Ropes can also be hung as border for that extra pirate ship feel.

Furniture

Turn the bed into a ship by adding a mast and sails. Your local fabric store will have colorful fabric that can be used to make the sails. Look at thrift stores for darkened old chests. Natural wood furniture will look great in a pirate room; add rope twist pulls or nautical pulls for the handles. Make sure to have plenty of storage space to tuck away all the treasures.

Decorating

Decorating can be inexpensive. Try a solid blue bedspread and add throw pillows in browns and red. Browse garage sales for old brass lamps and old nets. Mosquito netting can be nailed to the ceiling to hold stuffed animals, or use mosquito netting to hold shells in the corner. Hang skull and crossbone flags and look to hobby and craft stores for a ship in a bottle.
