Decorate Children'S Bedrooms In Black And White

Drape a white canopy over the bed in your child's room for a chic look.

For a chic and attention-grabbing color combination for your child's room, go for no color at all -- a black and white bedroom is a sleek, modern look that is perfect for a preteen or teenager. Alternate the two shades in the design components for the ultimate visual effect. Different fabrics also add interest and contrast to the room.

Instructions

1. Paint the walls pure white. Use a matte finish to reduce glare, or if you anticipate a regular need for cleaning, use a satin finish. Either will help the room feel comfortable while keeping its chic edge. Use black paint for the window frames, baseboards and any other woodwork in the room.

2. Hang black valances paired with white curtains for a striking window treatment. Use a ballooned valance for a girl's room, or a standard one for a boy's room. The curtains can be plain white or with a lacy trim or black edging.

3. Install a sheer white canopy over the bed. This will give your girl an elegant place to slumber and maintain the color scheme while offering something different to the viewer.

4. A black quilt or comforter will look stunning with the white room and sheer canopy. Top the bed with a few throw pillows in black and white patterns, such as a simple checkered pattern or a swirly design. A black and white rug on the floor in a similar pattern will pull the design of the room together.

5. Have your child choose several photographs to display on the wall. Family members, friends or pets are excellent subjects. Print out 8-by-10 inch black and white photos, if you have the ability to render digital photos in black and white, or take them to a photo development establishment for assistance. Place them in black frames and hang them on the walls.
