Decorate A Little Girl'S Bedroom

Give your little princess a fairytale bedroom.

Most little girls dream of being a princess, living in a castle and wearing gowns and tiaras. If your little girl is no exception, you can help make her dream come true with a princess-themed bedroom. There are abundant ways to complete a room that will encourage her imagination and allow her to feel as special as a princess. Whimsical colors, textures and themes will make her room a truly enchanting place to sleep, read or play.

Instructions

1. Take samples from a local paint supply store to look over in the room you are decorating. Choose many colors and shades, so that you'll have plenty of options. Great shades that add a whimsical feel are sage greens, deep purples and pale yellows. At home, tape the samples to a wall in the room. Decide which colors will look best with the flooring and lighting in the room.

2. Paint your walls the desired color or colors. Be sure to protect any surfaces in the room that you do not want painted.

3. Allow the paint to dry completely and tape a "princess" stencil to the wall above where your little girl's bed will be. Use your small paintbrush to paint inside the lines of the stencil. Allow the paint to dry again before removing the stencil. If you want to add some personal touches, use a small brush to paint a little design around the word "princess," or paint your little girl's name above the word. For example, if your daughter's name is Emma and she loves ladybugs, paint her name above "princess," and paint little ladybugs underneath.

4. Paint your existing furniture if you plan to reuse it instead of buying new. White furniture is beautiful, but consider the messes children make sometimes. You may want to choose a darker color, like a plum purple. If you buy new furniture, choose a bed, vanity table and dresser. A canopy bed will tie the princess theme together nicely, as they are grand in design--just right for royalty. When buying the new furniture, choose the bed first and purchase the set that matches it.

5. Accessorize the room. Add decorative shelves for pictures, music boxes or maybe a tiara. Choose curtains and a bedspread set that either match or complement each other within your color scheme. Add a throw rug or area rug that says "princess" or has a crown or tiara image on it. Throw pillows on the bed can feature the word "princess" or images of tiaras as well. Also. if your daughter plays dress-up, provide her with a rack to display her beautiful princess gowns. The gowns will function as both decor and play items.

6. Light the room. Do not use candles or lamps that get hot when they are left on because children are curious, and accidents happen. One option is to replace a current ceiling light with a small chandelier. You also may choose decorative sconces, table lamps or floor lamps. Sconces come in many styles, and you're bound to find a set to match the room. Floor and table lamps can be dressed up with an ornate lamp shade. If you have a lamp and shade already, use stick-on rhinestones to add some sparkle to the base of the lamp, and the seams of the shade. Use your imagination and have fun.
