Feng Shui Bathroom Tips

Since many people start and end their days in the bathroom, it is crucial to keep this space of the house harmonized. In feng shui, the loss of water from the home means a loss of chi, or natural energy. The plumbing system in the bathroom is a primary culprit for the loss of water. Follow these tips to create a pure, energized bathroom that will make your home a happier and healthier place to live.

Clean

Like all the rooms in the house, your bathroom should adhere to the basic feng shui principle of cleanliness. It is even more imperative to keep the bathroom tidy because it is the space in your house for renewal and purification. Clean regularly and keep only useful, beautiful or sentimental objects in your bathroom. Clutter will obstruct the natural movement of chi energy.

Cover Toilet and Drains

Toilets and sinks drain water away from the house. This is a problem in feng shui. As water escapes, so, too, does chi and money. To reduce the loss of chi, immediately repair faucets and toilets that leak. Always keep the toilet lid down, and cover drains with rubber stoppers when they are not in use.

Lift the Energy

As water flows out of the house, it pulls energy downward. Counter this by creating a lifting effect in the bathroom. Small round mirrors placed near the draining areas, such as the toilet or sink, will push energy upward.

Shut the Bathroom Door

Keep energy from entering the bathroom in the first place. The simplest way to achieve this is to keep the bathroom door shut. Put notes on the inside of the door to remind guests to keep it closed. These reminders also will work well for the toilet lid. Installing a full-length mirror on the outside of the door reflects the chi back into the other parts of the house. If you have a pet that needs to enter the bathroom, install a small pet door. You also can hang a curtain in the door frame in place of a door, which allows pets to enter but keeps chi out.

Add Plants

Add healthy, green plants to brighten lifeless, dull bathrooms. In addition to energizing a room, plants absorb moisture from the air, preventing dampness that can cause mildew in bathrooms. Chi energy from mildew is unhealthy. Although most plants need sunlight to grow, if you don't have a window in your bathroom, you can find a variety of plants that survive on artificial light.
