Dining Table Settings & Decorations

Mini-centerpieces at each place setting are unexpected and striking.

Table dressings often reflect a theme, season or holiday. The selection of place settings, linens, table accents and centerpieces makes a decorative statement that has the power to set the tone for a meal or party.

Place Settings

Complete place settings include dinner, salad and soup plates and a folded napkin, stacked in front of the diner. To the left are the salad and dinner forks. A bread plate with a small butter knife may be positioned above the forks. To the right are the knife and spoon; a dessert spoon goes above the plates, and a water glass goes above the knife.

Linens and Accents

Table linens include tablecloths, runners, place mats and napkins. They provide the backdrop to all the other components of the table. Decorative accents include things such as place cards, individual votive candles or floral arrangements, candlesticks and any decorative element aside from the centerpiece.

Centerpieces

Centerpieces vary based on the season, celebration and type of get-together. Floral arrangements are the traditional standard and are adaptable to all occasions, but a centerpiece can be any number things. A large bowl of goldfish, a cornucopia full of gourds and pumpkins, large glass vases filled with colorful fruits and an arrangement of paper lanterns are a few examples.
