Replace A Bathroom Faucet Handle

A bathroom's faucet handle enables you to operate the faucet valve by turning the attached handle rather than the actual valve itself. Due to the extreme humidity produced by showers and bathtubs, as well as the frequent use of the bathroom's fixtures, bathroom faucet handles are particularly susceptible to mildew, discoloration and cracking. Even if the faucet's handle is in excellent condition, you may wish to change the style or color of the existing handle. Replacing a bathroom faucet handle is a simple task that only takes a few minutes and does not require the main water supply to be turned off.

Instructions

1. Remove the handle's center cover, sometimes referred to a the handle's screw cover or cap. This cover operates as a decorative piece to conceal the handles retaining screw. To remove the cover, use a small flathead screwdriver to carefully pry the cap away from the handle.

2. Remove the handle's retaining screw. The retaining screw is used to attach the handle to the actual faucet. To remove the screw, turn the screw in a counterclockwise direction with a Phillips head screwdriver.

3. Remove the handle from the faucet valve by simply pulling the handle away from the faucet.

4. Slide the replacement handle over the faucet's stem.

5. Insert the handle's retaining screw through the center of the handle and into the faucet, then tighten the screw with a Phillips head screwdriver.

6. Place the handle's screw cap over the center of the handle, then gently press the cap into the handle until it clicks into place to complete the replacement process.
