Choose A Bedroom Curtain Style

Choosing the right curtain style will pull your bedroom togther.

Choosing the right curtains for your bedroom is an important part of the overall decorative scheme and will have a major impact on the feel of the room. You can choose from a variety of colors, materials and styles. While you will mainly choose bedroom curtains based on your personal taste, there are a few practical considerations to take into account. These are primarily the climate, the color scheme and the lighting in the room.

Curtain Basics

1. Write down your budget for window coverings. The amount that you are willing to spend will dictate the style as you may or may not (depending on your budget) be able to look at more expensive styles.

2. Purchase curtains that fit your color scheme. If your room is primarily bright colors, you don't want dark, dull curtains and vice versa.

3. Choose curtains that provide an adequate amount of insulation depending on your needs. If you live in an area with warmer climates, you will do well with lighter curtains, whereas if you live in a colder area, you are likely better off with darker, heavier curtains.

4. Buy curtains that fit with your lighting scheme. For example, if you have a television in range of the window, you'll want darker curtains to block out the sun to avoid the glare. If you want a bright room, you will want to choose lighter colors that let the sun in.

5. Choose curtains in a style that fits with your overall design scheme. Choose pinch-pleat curtains for a more formal look; as the rod will show when pinch-pleat curtains are hung, you will need to purchase a decorative rod. Tab-top curtains are less formal and lend a room a modern feel. They also require a decorative rod. If you don't want the rod to show, choose rod-pocket curtains. Depending on the color, material and any trims, rod-pocket curtains can be either casual or more formal.
