Arrange Furniture To Get The Most Space In A Small Bedroom

A sleek and narrow chest of drawers that can serve as a television stand is ideal for small bedrooms.

Your bedroom should feel like a retreat regardless of its size. Small bedrooms can be challenging, but there is no reason why they can't be cozy and peaceful. One way to make sure they are comfortable is to decorate them carefully. The important thing to remember is keeping everything in the room in balance. Once you know what pieces to look for and arrange them, you'll have a relaxing bedroom in no time.

Instructions

1. Choose furnishings that are to scale with your room. Avoid large, ornate furniture pieces that eat up space. Instead, choose furniture with clean lines. Choose the smallest size bed you can get away with sleeping on comfortably. Dressers, stands and chairs should also be sleek and slim.

2. Arrange the bed in the center of the largest wall. If you have a window or door preventing you from placing the bed directly in the center of the room, use the window or door to help create a sense of harmony in the room by placing the bed close to it. Keep enough room around the bed for walking.

3. Arrange furnishings around the bed to create a sense of balance. Nightstands are pleasing and convenient. If you can, place one on each side of the bed. Another idea is a nightstand on one side of the bed with a small table on the other. Another option is a stack of large books. Keep both items about the same height for a symmetrical look.

4. Place a dresser or chest of drawers on the opposite wall from the bed and, if possible, place your television on this piece of furniture to conserve space. Stick with taller dressers that take up less floor space.

5. Install shelves to give your bedroom more storage space. Floating shelves above the bed will give you places to store items you use daily.

6. Think double-duty when decorating. Store items under your bed to make the most of all your space. Look for decorative boxes or plastic bins to store out-of-season clothing or extra linens.
