Makeover Ideas For A Tiny Bathroom

Make more out of your tiny bathroom with the help of organization.

Making over a tiny bathroom can seem like a daunting task, but it doesn't have to be. Whether you are completely remodeling the space or just looking to reorganize and redecorate it to make it more functional and larger looking, start with a plan. Create a concrete interior design plan to avoid being faced with hard decisions during the last, hectic moments.

Layout

Whether you are gutting everything or just changing out a few pieces, deciding on your layout is the most important thing when remodeling a bathroom. In a smaller space, your personal preferences have to take precedence. If you need more cabinet storage space rather than a large soaking tub, consider the idea of installing a shower stall instead of a bathtub. If baths are your luxury in life, look into pedestal sinks to create more space. If it is a place that you do your makeup every morning, install a shallower vanity with a chair on one side of the sink. Though this may seem contrary to opening up the space, a chair can always be pushed under the vanity, and it allows you to have more drawers to store your things.

Colors

Making over a tiny bathroom with darker colors can make the room feel smaller, but if you are in love with particular deep shade, not all hope is lost. Create a uniform hue, such as white tiles, paint and wood to create an airy feeling in the room. Then buy all of your accent pieces in your favorite color. Faucets, hardware and other trims come in a variety of hues; as does sinks, toilets and tubs themselves. Other opportunities for bringing in a deeper shade, while keeping everything light, comes with fabric trims. For example, choose a fresh white shower curtain to keep it from closing a small bathroom in but add sparkling colored prisms to hang off the shower curtain hooks for a splash of brightness.

Organization

A lot can be accomplished in an interior design project just by organizing what you already have. When making over your tiny bathroom, think outside the traditional box of ideas. There are many choices in jars and baskets specifically meant for toiletry use, but you can create your own as well. Some examples include stacking hat boxes of various sizes on the counter-top to house cotton balls, swabs and extra tissue or use hang an extra towel bar to display your favorite reading material instead of using a magazine rack that takes up floor space. See if an in-wall medicine cabinet can be installed instead of having one that sticks out, or even a corner unit built to store items in a space that would not be functionally used anyways. Jot down all of your makeover ideas for your tiny bathroom before heading out shopping and look for innovative ways to gain extra storage.
