Redo Bedrooms

Redo a rumpled looking bedroom to create a relaxing retreat.

Most Americans spend a third of each day in their bedrooms, yet many leave it as the last room in the house to redecorate. A bedroom can be a relaxing oasis of calm and a place to unwind and regenerate. Choose a color theme or design to redo your old, worn-out bedroom decor and create a room that you'll be eager to retire in each night.

Instructions

1. Remove all the furniture in the room and paint all of the walls a relaxing color. Cool colors such as blues and greens are generally soothing. Consider painting one wall a darker focus color, and make this wall the centerpiece of the room.

2. Replace the furniture, focusing the design around the focus wall. Center the headboard on this wall so that the eye is drawn to this area as soon as you walk into the room.

3. Add a new bedspread or quilt to your bed. This is a large piece of furniture, so choose a color that catches the eye and that complements the focus wall color.

4. Add throw pillows in bright colors and patterns to continue the color theme in the spread and walls. Purchase or make pillows in many different shapes and sizes.

5. Install a tabletop fountain on a dresser or nightstand. The soft trickling sound of the water falling over rocks will have a soothing and relaxing effect. Surround the fountain with attractive candles in natural looking holders.

6. Hang a collection of framed pictures or wall hangings in a grouping opposite the focus wall. This will draw the eye away from the bed slightly, and help to keep the room from becoming unbalanced visually.
