Creative Bedroom Painting Ideas For Teens

Create a room that she'll love spending time in.

Use paint, glitter and other accent pieces to design a creative personal living space for your teenager. The colors she chooses can set the tone in the room, so encourage her to select colors she can live with for a long period of time. Encourage her to pick a theme that also goes well with the color scheme in the room.

Accent Walls

Accent walls work well for both teen girls and boys. Create an accent wall if your teen wants to feature a dramatic color such as forest green, plum, burgundy or dark blue. Painting such a color on all the walls creates and overwhelming closed-in effect, but dark shades on an accent wall stands out against the remaining white walls. After the paint dries, place your teens bed up against the wall and decorate around the accent wall first. Add pictures and other decor pieces to the other walls that highlight the shade of the accent wall.

Pink Rooms

Many teen girls still adore the color pink, so create a room that features this classic shade that has stayed with her since she was a little girl. Paint the walls pastel pink and let the paint dry. Spray a thin coat of spray-on glue all over the walls in random places and sprinkle pink glitter on top. You can also paint dark pink polka dots on the walls and only add glitter to the dots. Glue fake pink gemstones around each dot to create an even more creative effect. The color pink goes well with cowgirl, fantasy, flower and other fun teen themes.

Sports Themes

Design a teen bedroom for your son that mimics the colors on his soccer team, such as blue and white, green and yellow or other combos. Paint a soccer scene mural on the wall, or paint small soccer balls in random spots throughout the room. A soccer ball border also goes well with any soccer room. Incorporate similar ideas when designing basketball, golf, football or surfing themes.

Tropical Flowers

Paint your teenage daughter's room with various types of tropical flowers, rather than adorning walls with daisies or generic cartoonlike flowers that she liked as a child. Paint the walls one solid color in a light shade such as soft green or pastel pink. Use darker colors to bring out the rich shades seen in red, yellow and purple hibiscus blooms. Paint a border with one type of tropical flower, or mix it up by creating orchids, hibiscus and cherry blossoms. You can also paint the flowers all over the room in random places. Spray a thin coat of spray-on glue on the flowers, and then sprinkle glitter on top for an added sparkle effect. If your budget allows, hire an artist to paint a tropical flower mural on one main wall in the room.
