Decorate Asianthemed Designs For Bedrooms

Low-slung furniture and touches of nature help create a Zen-like bedroom.

Your bedroom should serve as your private, tranquil retreat where you can go to unwind after a long day. Decorate your bedroom with an Asian theme if you want a minimalist, zen-like retreat with clean lines or if you enjoy antique Asian furnishings, such as ornate carved wood cabinets or hand-painted black lacquer designs.

Instructions

1. Paint the walls with light colors found in nature. Ivory, tan, buttery yellow or light green are some colors that will work. A single wall can serve as an accent wall in a darker color, such as a deep red.

2. Use furniture that complements your specific Asian-themed room. For example, minimalist Japanese decor might include a low platform bed with simple matching nightstands that appear to extend the headboard. Antique Chinese decor would include hand-carved wood with detailed designs.

3. Cover the windows with shoji screens for privacy; they still allow natural light to filter through. Alternatively, simple shades, such as matchstick or bamboo shades, will allow for privacy and light control while keeping with a natural and simple Asian style.

4. Use a rug made of natural materials, such as sisal, or a rug with an Asian design. Antique oriental rugs are one option or rugs with Asian images. For example, a rug with cherry blossoms or bamboo stalks can work with your Asian-inspired bedroom if the colors and style complement the rest of the room.

5. Hang wall decor that adds to the design without overwhelming the space. A painting of a garden, cherry blossoms, bamboo stalks, dragons or Japanese or Chinese calligraphy are appropriate. Peel-and-stick decals can create the illusion of hand-painted designs.

6. Add bedding that works with the rest of the room. Simple red satin bedding with gold and black designs, light green bedding with bamboo stalks or light blue bedding with cherry blossoms are some options. Solid-colored bedding in a light color will add to a minimalist Asian design.

7. Accessorize the room with decorative items that complement your design. Use shoji screens instead of closet doors or as your headboard. Replace standard ceiling lights with softer lights covered with paper lanterns. Make use of hand-carved wooden jewelry boxes. Fill a black lacquered vase with orchids.
