Create A Centerpiece For A Dining Room Table

A vase of fresh flowers makes an ideal dining room table centerpiece.

The easiest way to update an old or uninteresting dining room table is with a stunning centerpiece. Display a centerpiece daily or use it to create a party theme. Making a centerpiece is also a simple way to decorate for any holiday or special occasion. Use a favorite item, such as fresh flowers from your garden or a vintage tea set, as a centerpiece starting point. Use crafts, natural items or home decor to complete the centerpiece.

Instructions

1. Choose a dining room table centerpiece theme to coordinate with the overall look of the space or a special occasion. Pick autumn-inspired decor for a Thanksgiving centerpiece. Enhance a vintage-looking dining room with antique pieces.

2. Pick a container in which to place the centerpiece items. Choose a wooden crate for a rustic, autumn-inspired centerpiece. Go with an antique cut-crystal vase or wine glasses for a vintage look.

3. Enhance the container. Tie a piece of raffia or orange grosgrain ribbon onto a wooden crate and create a bow. Stick red berry sprays into the crate openings. Wrap delicate satin or silk ribbons around wine glass bases.

4. Fill the container with decorative items. Place hay and assorted yellow, orange and gourds in a wooden crate. Enhance an elegant crystal vase with a selection of white flowers, such as calla lilies and roses. Fill vintage wine glasses with floating candles or glass gems.

5. Surround the centerpiece with coordinating decor pieces. Display pine cones around the autumn-inspired centerpiece; spray-paint them gold first for a juxtaposition of rustic and elegant. Accent a crystal vase with silver votive holders filled with tall taper candles. Create a romantic look by sprinkling rose petals around the candles or gem-enhanced wine glasses.
