Cabin Bedroom Ideas

Cabins exude charm and conjure thoughts of relaxation and casual living.

Cabins bring to mind vacation, relaxed living and a casual rustic feel. They are typically set deep in nature---in the woods, by a pond, stream or ocean or on a mountainside. The decor inside the cabin reflects the surrounding nature outside. Cabins are not usually very large; keep the scale of furnishings small, and the bedroom in particular should carry over the feel of comfort and relaxation.

Rustic Woods

Timber, log or other rustic cabins provide many options for a cozy bedroom design.

A thick wood or timber bedroom set will carry the rustic look. Stone or ceramic lamps and lighting continue the natural feel. Wall decor might include scenes from the outdoors, tin wall art, thick wooden sconces or baskets of dried flowers. Faux fur scatter rugs will add to the wooded feel, or add a bit of color and whimsy with brightly colored hooked rugs placed upon the wooden floor. Bring more color in with gingham check or small print fabrics in curtains, swags, spreads and upholstery.

Beachside

When decorating a cabin at the shore, bring the theme and sense of nature inside.

White finished wood furniture for a cool, crisp look is a good choice for a beach getaway; white wicker also works well. Consider fabrics in blue, bringing in the color of the ocean. Use navy blue and yellow fabrics for spreads, pillows and window treatments against whitewashed walls for a nautical flair; pale blue and white decor adds coolness. Fill empty glass jar lamps with sand and shells. Set old wooden lobster traps on end to use as night stands. Place woven reed scatter rugs on the floor. Nautical prints and beach scene prints for the wall will bring the landscape indoors. Purchase an unfinished Adirondack chair and paint a complementary color. Consider white bead board as a wainscoting or ceiling material.

Modern or Contemporary

Clean, straight wooden lines lend themselves to a contemporary feel.

Create a modern look in your cabin bedroom with light wood walls and furniture. Scandinavian design furniture, with clean, straight lines will give a modern feel. Keep fabric colors neutral. Light tans and creams with accent colors will provide a warm but sleek contemporary look. Install recessed lighting, canister up-lights or track lights for a dramatic effect. If you have open beamed ceilings, consider angled spot lights along a beam. Use a dimmer for dramatic lighting. Consider adding roman blinds in neutral canvas fabrics as a window treatment. Stainless steel abstract prints for wall decor will create striking focal points. Geometric patterned scatter rugs or a simple neutral-print area rug with add warmth.
