How Much Lighting In Bedroom

Having the right amount of lighting in the bedroom is important

Since the bedroom is for sleeping, lighting is sometimes an overlooked design element. However, having too little lighting in the bedroom can make reading, dressing or even cleaning more difficult than it needs to be.

General Lighting

You may not use general lighting in the bedroom often, but having plenty illumination makes tasks such as cleaning and organizing your space much easier. Overhead light fixtures that illuminate the entire room should provide enough light that tasks that call for plenty of light are not difficult.

Bedside Lighting

While bedside lighting is a must, the amount you need is determined by your use. If you use bedside lighting mainly for getting up in the night or in the morning, small lamps or wall sconces that do not shed much light are sufficient. However, if you read, write or even do crafts such as knitting in bed, you'll need bedside lights that are bright enough to prevent eye strain.

Task Lighting

If you dress, apply cosmetics or style your hair in the bedroom, task lighting is essential. Task lighting should be bright enough to allow you to easily get made up and dressed.
