Cool Ideas For Decorating A Boy'S Bedroom

Finding a cool idea for your boy's bedroom is a tricky thing. Sports rooms, train rooms and space rooms are typical rooms that you'll find in hundreds of houses. You want a decorating theme that he won't find at his friends' houses and one that's unique just to him. Cool ideas for decorating a boy's bedroom include ideas that fit with his own style and ideas that he'll want to show off to his friends.

Bring the Outdoors Inside

Turn his bedroom into a space that mimics the great outdoors. Paint a large tree mural on one wall, using brown paint for the tree and tree bark, and different shades of green for the leaves on the tree. Use the same green shades on the bedroom furniture, to give each piece a new look. Hang decorative camping gear on the walls as decorations, including canteens and old lanterns. Maps and pages from old atlases also add color and decoration to the walls, whether you frame the pages or hang them directly on the walls. Turn his bed into a camping tent by draping fabric from the ceiling around the bed or using a smaller tent that fits directly on top of the bed.

Sunken Treasure Room

Use the pirate theme to turn his bedroom into a sunken treasure room. An old ship wheel, fake gold coins, old life preservers and ship lanterns make unique decorations when hung on the walls. Turn a fake ship wheel on its side and hang from the ceiling for a new fixture for the light. Look for accessories that work with the theme, such as a pirate chest-shaped toybox and bedding with skulls on it. Furniture made from old barrels also work with the theme, like a chair or table made from an old barrel. A ship mural or treasure map painted on the wall completes the look.

Camouflage Decorating

For a boy who loves military things, create a camouflage style room. Pick camo decorative bedding or use the camo only on the headboard. Camouflage fabric placed over an existing headboard gives it an entirely new look. Give the furniture a new coat of dark green or khaki-colored paint and use shades of green to make a camouflage look. Paint the front of the dresser drawers camouflage. Dark green and khaki accessories placed around the room work with the theme without detracting from the camouflage.
