Decorate Bedrooms With Hardwood Floors

Hardwood floors have a lot to offer for home decor. They match almost any decorating scheme you want to pair with them, and their versatility allows you to change your decorating scheme whenever you would like with little worry about matching the walls to the floor. They are also easy to maintain and make a great flooring alternative for people with allergies. Though hardwood floors are more common in the main living spaces of a home, they can be used throughout the entire home, bedrooms included. Stumped as to decorate bedrooms with hardwood floors? Problem solved!

Instructions

1. Consider the obvious first. Bedrooms with hardwood floors need decorating touches that help to warm them. The best way to do this is with an area rug. If you aren't sure use an area rug, just take Martha Stewart's advice: "As the name implies, area rugs are meant to demarcate specific areas within a larger space." And further, "the goal is to strike a balance between the rug, the furniture, and the exposed hardwood floors," says Stewart.

Choose a rug that reflects the colors you plan to use in the bedroom. The pattern and texture is a matter of taste. Just be sure the rug is large enough to border the bed all the way around. Your feet should hit the rug and then some upon climbing out of bed.

The largest item in the bedroom is the bed, so the positioning of the rug will stem from where the bed is placed. In especially large rooms, a bed can be placed in the center of the room. In smaller rooms, beds are usually placed with the headboard resting against the wall with space for a nightstand on one or both sides. Once you've determined the placement of the bed, you are ready to lay the rug.

2. Add room-warming decorating touches:

Adorn the walls in artwork composed of warm colors.

Cover the bed in a thick quilt layer, coordinating pillows across the head board. Drape a cozy lap blanket across the foot of the bed.

Use atmospheric lighting to give the room a warm glow. Just add a dimmer switch to the existing overhead light or use lamps.

3. Choose upholstered furniture instead of wood furniture. Upholstered chairs with rich fabrics can bring a certain coziness to bedrooms with hardwood floors that may be lacking when wood furniture is used.
